Welcome to the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ibadan., Nigeria. The Department is primarily engaged in the teaching of crude drugs under the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree (B. Pharm.) that is awarded by the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ibadan. The overall goal of the Department is to largely contribute to the multidisciplinary drug research and development from natural products, using the rich flora of Africa as the main accessible raw material. The Department runs a postgraduate program leading to the degree of Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Pharmacognosy, which consists of crude drug standardization and general crude drug analysis, as well as the degrees of M.Phil. and Ph.D. which involve laboratory research in different specific areas of the subject of Pharmacognosy. Ege University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacognosy was founded in 1982 and Phytotherapy Master of Science Program of Pharmacognosy Department started in 2009-2010 period.
The Master’s Degree in Phytotherapy (second cycle in Phytotherapy ) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully fulfilled all programme requirements. (more…)
The degrees offered by the Faculty of Pharmacy are the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Master of Science in Pharmacy. The Bachelor’s degree consists of 180 credits and completing the degree takes normally three years. The Master’s degree consists of 120 credits and completing the degree takes normally five years (Bachelor’s degree + two years).

Education Overview
There are six subjects taught at the Department of Pharmacognosy: Pharmacognosy, Biotechnology, Technology of Natural Drugs, Ecology for Pharmacists, Monitoring of the Environment, and Phytotherapy (Phytotherapy is guaranteed together with the Department of Pharmaceutical Botany and Ecology).
Research Overview
Research is focused on the study of therapeuticallysignifi cant substances of natural origin (higher plants) with a special attention to their identifi cation and factors infl uencing their biosynthesis. For these purposes, cultures in vitro derived from relevant intact plants are used. (more…)
A College of Pharmacy with diploma course was established in 1972 which was affiliated to the Delhi Board of Technical Education. In 1973, B.Pharm. course was started under Delhi University. In 1982, M.Pharm. in Pharmacognosy was started. From 1986 M.Pharm programme in all the four disciplines and simultaneously a Ph.D. programme in all the disciplines was started. Earlier the intake for B.Pharm. was 40 which was enhanced to 60 with the approval of AICTE in 1996. From 1997 self financing B.Pharm. course was started with 60 seats. In collaboration with Ranbaxy Laboratories, department of Pharmaceutical Medicine was started in 1999 for Ph.D. programme in this discipline. It is a unique programme of its own kind in our country.
The Faculty of Pharmacy’s bachelor programme is offered by the faculty with the aim of preparing full time future health professionals in pharmacy. They are required to obtain the required education and scientific skills at the degree level before they could register with the Pharmacy Board, Ministry of Health Malaysia as professional practitioners. Accredited professional pharmacist is acknowledged as an expert in medicinal drugs thus qualifying him to administer and prepare therapeutic and controlled drug substances in the process of manufacturing, marketin
