Research Overview
1. Exploration: Isolation and identification of bioactive natural products from rain forest plants , isolation and extraction of new bioactive natural products from tropical forest plants, etc.
“Pharmaceuticals” were born from organic compounds produced by nature, that is, natural products.
Even today, about half of the medicines actually used are natural products or compounds derived from natural products. It is said that there are many natural products on the road that are candidates for medicines, especially in tropical forest plants that are in danger of disappearing. In our laboratory, we focus on tropical forest plants and conduct research to find new bioactive natural products. (more…)
Department of Pharmacy was first founded at the Faculty of Medicine of University of Belgrade on 24 October 1939. The Faculty of Pharmacy became an independent higher education institution on 19 October 1945. For a number of years the courses were taught in the facilities of the Faculty of Medicine, and in September 1991 the Faculty of Pharmacy moved to its own building located at Vojvode Stepe 450.

The NPDI is dedicated to making productive use of one of the world’s greatest collections of Natural Products. The NPDI provides microbial and plant extracts, fermentation optimization, purification chemistry to support bioassay driven fractionation, and structure elucidation. It houses a collection of >30,000 fungi and actinomycete microorganisms, and genomic DNA. This previously private collection of natural products is provided to qualified researchers in academia and industry. Research activity has lead to the discovery of novel molecules with biological activity and to the formation of new life sciences companies that will seek to commercialize discoveries centered on natural products. Businesses include those developing pharmaceutical, nutritional, flavor enhancing, cosmetic ingredient, agricultural, and animal health products.

Short introduction
Department of Pharmacognosy has several areas of specialization such as Phytochemistry, Natural Products Synthesis, Biotechnology and Cell Culture, Marine Natural Product Chemistry, Standardization of Herbs and Herbarium. Academic staff have expertise in each area. The area of Phytochemistry focuses on the studies of chemical constituents from plants by isolation, purification and structure elucidation of the isolated products. Primary biological activity screening of promising crude extracts and/or pure compounds are also of interest. The area of Marine Natural Product Chemistry studies the isolation, purification, structure elucidation, chemical structure modification and bioactivity screening of new bioactive constituents from Thai marine organisms, such as sponges, soft corals. gorgonians, tunicates and bryozoa, marine microalgae and microorganisms. DNA fingerprinting of medicinal plants is another area of interest. We employ several molecular techniques such as RAPD, AFLP, RFLP, PCR-RFLP, and sequencing for generating markers for authentication of medicinal herbs and crude drugs. We have several equipped laboratories with facilities. (more…)

History
On Dec. 27, 1939, Natural Products Research Institute was founded as an affiliate of Kyungsung Imperial University in Kaesung Branch. The original institute was established to study Chinese medicinal resources in Manchuria, China and the Korean peninsula. With the liberation in 1945, Seoul National University was founded through amalgamation of Kyungsung buy cialis Imperial University. The institute marked the first research institute of Seoul National University. The research institute was later renamed as the Natural Products Research Institute in 1992. Under the Research and Development of New Drugs Originated from Natural Products Act, the institute was designated as the National Center for Research and Development of New Drugs Originated from Natural Products from the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Korea. In 2001, the institute was merged with the College of Pharmacy. In 2008, the institute was relocated to pharmacy building #20 in Gwanak campus. (more…)

This website will provide you with multiple information including our Faculty’s history, education principles, education purpose, research areas and substance, research achievements, and research life. I hope the information provided here would enrich your understanding of our Faculty.
Currently, we hold two parallel courses, “Pharmacy” and “Pharmaceutical Science.” The former aims mainly to educate sophisticated pharmacists who will be able to adjust and correspond to the rapid sophistication and advancement of medical technologies. The later, on the other hand, aims to educate researchers that would be able to lead in the field of pharmaceutical science and life science not only in Japan but throughout the world. “Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Science” is an academic field, which focuses on substances that directly correlates to life. Hence, in order to become a pioneer in this field, a wide variety of knowledge is inevitable. (more…)
ABOUT COLLEGE OF PHARMACY
The College of Pharmacy was established in 1959 (1379 H), two years after the foundation of King Saud University (Formerly named as Riyadh University). A four- year pharmacy curriculum was adopted, with an enrollment of seventeen students in the first year, who commenced their studies under the guidance of three faculty members in four departments, namely, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. By the first semester of 1979-1980 (1399-1400 H), there were 35 faculty members and more than 350 students enrolled in a five-year program. This academic year witnessed the establishment of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy as the fifth department of the college. Since its foundation, the College of Pharmacy is continuously updating its curriculum, to keep pace with the rapidly evolving pharmacy profession. In 1975 (1395 H), new patient oriented courses were introduced, while in 1979 (1399 H) a new curriculum emphasizing the pharmacist’s role in patient care was adopted, encompassing the expansion in clinical pharmacy and other supporting courses. About
The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chulalongkorn University, was established in the reign of King Vajiravuth (Rama VI), who commanded Prince Rangsit of Chainad to set up a School of Pharmacy (commonly called in Thai as “Drug Preparation School”) in 1913. The school developed from then on through various phases before it became the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Chulalongkorn University.
Visions
The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Chulalongkorn University is a source of knowledge and academic-resource center, a leading pharmaceutical science institution that contributes to the country’s sustainable development.
Welcome to the Faculty of Pharmacy. The Faculty has been recognized as one of the most prestigious institutions of Pharmacy within the country and abroad. It has comparatively shorter but exciting history, dating back to 1975, when a dedicated Department of Pharmacy began delivering pharmaceutical education, first in the Government Science College at the City Campus and then in the Department of Chemistry at New Campus of the Gomal University. In the beginning the Department of pharmacy was conferring a three-year B-Pharmacy degree. Later on in 1980 the three-year Bachelor of Pharmacy Course was replaced with a Four-year post-Inter level degree accredited as equivalent to the Master Degree by the University Grants Commission (UGC). In 1983, the department moved to a purpose designed building on the University’s New Campus. During the first decade of its life the Department grew fast in size and stature. Consequently, in 1990 it was upgraded to the current status of ‘Faculty of Pharmacy’ comprising four full-fledged departments viz. (more…)
