The Bachelor of Pharmacy is a four-year degree that is recognised Australia-wide.The course is an ideal choice for students with an interest in pharmacy, primary health care, science, or in making an important and valued contribution to the community.

Pharmacists are health care professionals with the skills and knowledge to manage a patient’s usage and understanding of medication, in order to optimise health outcomes.

To be registered as a pharmacist, students must complete an additional one-year pre-registration program under the supervision of the Pharmacy Board.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy degree has four key areas of study:

  • Medicinal chemistry (chemistry of drugs)
  • Pharmacology (modes of actions of drugs)
  • Pharmaceutics (formulation of drug dose)
  • Pharmacy practice (application of all these to the professional practice of pharmacy)

Pharmacy course has an emphasis on Indigenous health, as well as rural and remote pharmacy. Students undertake work placements in community pharmacies, hospitals and rural clinics through the nine-week practical experience program.

The practical program provides an understanding of the processes involved in providing primary health care, drug information and clinical pharmacy services in different practice settings.

At CDU, we measure our success by the success of our students. Our pharmacy students enjoy small class sizes and personalised service – and achieved 100 percent graduation rate in 2009.
