The department of Pharmacognosy offers diverse types of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. For the under graduate level, the courses delivered include Botany, Medical botany, General Pharmacognosy, Chemistry of natural products as well as the very recent course in the quality control of herbal drugs. The applications of HPLC, GC and spectroscopic analysis were also included.

Medical botany is designed as prerequisite course to Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry courses in order to help the students in the identification of natural drugs from plant kingdom as well as, their proper collection, storage and marketing according to official texts. While General Pharmacognosy courses deal with the identification of a natural drug in its natural form either entire or powdered using advanced physicochemical techniques. (more…)
